An extra-large amethyst cluster from Boekenhouthoek in Mpumalanga, weighing 18.2kg. Hundreds of hexagonal quartz points, densely packed, rise from a rough matrix of tan, orange-brown and dark brown. The points shade from translucent smoky grey-brown at the base to pale purple toward the tips, with a few larger points standing proud of the mass. Natural and intact, with no visible damage or restoration – clusters this size are hard to come by because of the way the site is mined.
