A large blue agate geode from Malawi, 21 x 21 x 13cm and 4.30kg. The exterior is a rough, earthy rind of light brown, beige and grey, with distinct patches of dark green mineral on one flank; it opens onto a cavity lined with smooth, undulating bands of light to sky blue agate. The centre of the cavity is filled with a fine, sparkling drusy of tiny translucent pale blue quartz crystals. The blue agate is partially cabochon quality because of its clarity and colour, so the piece is as much a cutting prospect as a display specimen.
